manic monday - take two
i was feeling all inspired yesterday and did a post which blogger vanished. i'm so tempted to switch to wordpress cos really, the amount of frustration and curse words that went on are not worth it. anyway, on to lessons learnt
- moving will make you realise how much of a pack rat you are. i spent hours sorting through stuff and boxing it up and i was like what the hell? wasn't it just the other day i arrived here with two suitcases and hand luggage? where did all this come from? i saw things i could've sworn were in my wardrobe back home. all the boxes are finally unpacked. i just hope i don't accumulate stuff all over again. i know, i know, wishful thinking. especially since i form attachments to random things like raggedy t-shirts and the like (the memories, the memories!) and i always find a reason not to throw them out.
- it doesn't matter if you label boxes FRAGILE!!! and put arrows with "THIS WAY UP" written beside them something will get broken. actually alot of things. by the end of the day, people were pretty tired and were like let's get this over and done with so i should've expected it. but still.
- i need to cut tv out of my entertainment diet. i usually swing between two extremes - a couple of years back i couldnt tell you what came on t.v apart from a couple of random programmes. now that i surf the net as i watch it, i've decided i'm bored and that i watch too much of it. i mean, the highlights on the news recently have been
1. borat. borat. and borat. all about how he is soo funny, and oh my god we are shocked that racism and bigotry still exist in the US of A. (oh yeah? you think?) let's take this chance to laugh/ shake our heads at those pathetic sons of bitches and thank god we are above that. who cares if we don't know where that kazastan/kazakistan/ka-whatever place is. that said, i'll wait for it to come out on DVD. whenever i indulge in something that has that much hype around it i usually get disappointed so i'll watch it when all the excitement has died down. maybe.
2. tom cruise getting married to katie whoever. this was on for days like what people wore, random papparazzi pics and what scientology wedding are like was the most. important. thing. ever! YAWN! can't wait till everyone gets tired of whatever the big deal is supposed to be.
3. micheal richards being "possesed by some kind of evil spirit" and saying "allegedly" racist comments (hey, that's how they (t.v stations and all) were all reporting it. when someone screams about how black folks should be thankful cos 50 years ago they would have pitchforks up their asses we should think back and think "could there be reasonable doubt that this is racism?") then the whole non apology thing on letterman.
yeah, i'll give tv a rest for a while until it can captivate me again.
- that i was i was right in not listening to radio unless its NPR. i had to endure an entire day of some random station and in two hours they had already played "how to save a life" by the fray twice and some fergalicious song. and thats not even the worst of it. ugh. radio sucks!
- i absolutely love "heroes". i don't care what anyone else says, hiro nakamura had me at "YATAI! I DID IT!"
- that some of y'all are cheap. that's right. i said it.(lol, you know who you are) i discovered that eric wanaina has a new album out and it's on itunes. people are like it's nice and all but si you burn me a copy? sigh. kenyans are always complaining about how they bootleg songs cos they are not worth buying then when something comes along that they like still they won't buy it. let's not confuse legitmate criticism of the music biz and being cheap, ama? anyway, you can listen to 2 minute samples here and the entire album is on itunes. if you are feeling it go on and buy it. don't wait for your cousin/ pal/ whoever to send it to you or wait for others to buy it so you can burn it. we have to give people incentive to keep making good music.
- i need to work on not getting lost. new place means new bus lines and trains. i was so ready to prove people wrong who were already laughing cos my lack of dirention is legendary. trains taken in the wrong direction, taking ages to know the difference between bus routes that have the same number but go different directions and so on and so forth. well, i got lost. and the day i did, it rained and i didn't have an umbrella. people laughed even harder. how mean!
- out of towners over the thanksgiving period will be the death of you. it was a great weekend full of bbqs and parties and derailers. i will need a break from going out for a while.
i don't know why, but this made me laugh

nyas what are all these new developments and when will you be home, and how come ur never online, and you neeeeeed to send me a looooong arse email my dear.....im talking extended essay type email....i havnt watched borat too...probably due to the fact that i live in a back water european village, they probably don't know what or who borat is, but anyway, shall do the dvd after all the excito's are dead and burried as well...oooh and I moved to wordpress too....make the move my dear...
Good looks on the heads up...from what i'm hearing this cd is must cop.
CD baby service is excellent too..
Boo@borat..lol
Ahh damn..heads up its out of order already?
Hey Spicey girl.
Moving is definitely why people live in a place they would rather not for a long time. I had to move a cuzo of mine who was moving to a flat on the fifth storey.Huh,
i have not watched borat. Lets say racism, bigotry!!!
I have read that story of Ngugi and i think that Hotel Vitale though now very popular owes the whole world an apology. I dont apologize for being African. i love being African and i wouldnt trade places with a jungu even if it were for free.(tema mate hapo in annoyance)
@ nyas
remember that beef that i had with yahoo? same thing with hotmail and gmail. lol, but i'll get round to it before you know it. check your inbox.
@ msanii
cd is awesome! i'm playing it over and over cos it's so good. and as far as i know, cd baby may not have it but it's still on itunes.
people were talking about borat like he was going to give out free nation wide minutes ama complimentary vodka. with that kind of hype i think i'll pass.
@ shiro
up five storeys? maan, ok, i shouldn't be bitching then.
i get you on not apologising for the way you look. people keep saying that he should've dressed up ama he should work harder to blend in. this maneno of doing our darndest to not make the mzungu uncomfortable need to go out the window. there is no justification for the way he was treated. none at all.
Right on cue. Moving is the pits my gal. glad yu got over it in one piece. And as Shiroh said, i also had to move a friend 12 floors up in one of those dingy places where they set only one elevator for moving. aki maa, if am not living in a hauz, am bailing out. 23 floor apt complexes won't match my moving habits.
anyhow, glad to hear yu'r thanksgiving was the shyt. me too partied like crazy. i think she gave me a timeout until further notice. am grounded for real.Lol
that Ngugi thing had me seething and all in anger. so stupid, so ign'ant, so gay.... i hate this bastards.
have a nice day. halla at me.
Hi Spicebear, thanks for the lovely comment on my blog. Much appreciated.
Hey, I love Heroes too (just about to watch episode 10) and Hiro (and Ando) just make my day:)
Ah, I hear you. We have this uncanny ability to multiply miraculously one suitcase, one duffel bag and a back pack (in my case) into a 20 foot truck's worth of stuff.
Thanks for the heads up on the CD. I'll have to check it out and get me a copy.
Borat I will watch when it comes on tv. If I get round to it.
That video is funny indeed. I love the Bohemian Rhapsody. Very nice sound to it.
@ kymbrr
say what? 12 floors? i'm starting to think i shouldn't have been complaining at all. and eish, i feel you on those crappy apt. building elevators. i remember being stuck in one for the longest ten minutes of my life. never again!
@ mshairi
thanks for dropping by. oooh, another "heroes" fan! that thing is addictive for sure.
@ egm
how your possesions are multiplied times four in such a short time is beyond me. at osme point i was like all i need is a suitcase and an inflatable mattress cos it was just too much. at least i am not the only one unmoved by borat, i was starting to think there was something wrong with me!
As for packrat tendancies I have really really cut down. The only thing I have lots of is books and magazines.
As for Heroes, I love that show! shame we now have to wait for Jan to find out why Petrezelli is the exploding man.
