random thoughts
i miss church back home. there is nothing that compares to mass done the african way. when i do attend mass down here there is an orchestra with various stringed instruments and lots of excitement but man! i miss songs in swa, drums, kayambas and co-ordinated clapping (i'm not hating, but there are alot of people during mass who cannot find rhythym at all at all) on that note i also miss news in kiswahili. it was downright hilarious at times. over here all they have is sensationalised news where CPS visiting brittney spears is featured on prime time news. its like a slow news day all day, everyday. thirty minutes of news and four weather updates on how hot it was? yawn!
i've been trying to catch up on my reading. right now i'm trying to finish the book of the thousand nights and one night. because of time constraints i have been reading one story per night before bedtime until it dawned on me that it might actually take one thousand and one nights to finish it, not good because i have a very short attention span so i am trying to speed up the process. the other is the no.1 ladies' detective agency (i know, i know, i should've read this ages ago. everyone is like "what? you haven't read that yet? slacker!")
i have made an observation as i read the arabian nights stories and other period pieces - most men had no issues in calling another man handsome. they called it as they saw it, if you were good looking you were compared to the moon, milk (!) and whatnot. nowadays, catch a straight man dead saying that another man is physically appealing! its like there is some unwritten law that states that unless they are the man in question then shetani ashindwe! there is this dude i know who has no problem in saying that another man is handsome because he feels that his masculinity is not at stake (yup, he is straight as straight can be) but i remember everyone, me included, used to look at him suspiciously, like wewe kijana, are you serious?
is it me, or do a vast majority of guys have a very healthy collection of science fiction and action movies? i know this one dude who has actually classified them into eras, like bruce lee, van damme, rambo, matrix ... all i could think was there was no need for a whole section dedicated to steven segal. si the dude has the same plot lines (and clothes and hairstyle) in all his movies? successful in one way or another, usually a cop or something and loves his family (add girlfriend/ wife and kids/ ageing parents) and then someone either kills his loved ones out of spite or by mistake because they miss the intended target i.e him. he mourns for a while or is out of action because of injuries (a coma is a favourite, jail comes in a close second) then he goes out and gets revenge on the bad guys. after fighting off all the bad guys' minions there is one final battle and where it seems as first he is losing then all of a sudden he strikes back and wins! bad guy dies or is taken to jail and he walks off into the sunset. cue cheesy music. sprinkle flowers, shooting stars and floating lovehearts (might as well, that's a fairy tale ending if i ever heard of one)
and what was with that thing of guys getting all riled up ati cos they have been punched? they pause, see a cut somewhere, put a finger there, taste the blood and then go beserk? i'm always hilarized by that, if there was no blood would he cotinue getting a beat down? LOL!

y lie I also miss mass ya home. There is nothing like those kayambas and drums plus ninasadiki being belted out by a lively choir. Out here yaani mass can be so clinical mpaka you want to tear. As for jamaas and their action flicks I'm the same as you bila interest. Lakini Segal movies for real were the same storyline.
@ kabinti
mass over here will never compare to the ones back home. i remember being shocked to see ma-violins and whatnot as part of the choir.
i don't mind action movies much but ai, they tend to get monotonous sometimes. even van damme has one script like segal!
@ labelle
LOL! i tell you hindsight is a mutha. if i knew all those movies were going to be the same i would have spent my time watching spanish soaps. they have the same story line but at least they change clothes.
talk about boooooooring church services...not even in English!!! But in Italy, I was taken to what was the most charismatic church of the area....ooooooohhhh...they had a guitar for music!! WOW!!! and that was about it as far as charisma was concerned!! I miss home church!! As for the flick, lol at putting a finger to blood and going all crazy!! I can just picture that in my head!
I cannot stand action movies especially the bloody gory ones.
lol! @ spanish soaps with changing clothes.
@ nyas
that finger licking scene was everywhere in movies from seventies, eighties and nineties. someone should have trademarked it!
church here can be cool but i still want drums! kayambas! the whole works. don't think they would blend in with the cellos and fiddles though
@ prousette
but those are the best kind! (so i am told always) and steven segal had the same clothes always for real
@ poi
who's "he"? hehe, you know i'm demanding answers, right? hehe.
i don't know why guys complain chick flicks are all the same and action movies are just as bad when it comes to rewinding themes
have we met b4 lol
ati have we met before? only time will tell. reveal thyself! thanks for passing by.
spicebear time is a dangerous thing . i just hope you know what you are doing
@ reformed
time is a dangerous thing .... huh?
spicebear, i miss hearing the drum of "Dini ya Musambwa" when they used to pass outside the esto. Yaani you find yourself jammim' bila liking...ama it's just me?

@ naksis

nakeel that is what we like to cal "alpha blocking" am not playing games am just showing genuine interest in spicebear. why dont you just seat back and relax. but if being in good books with you nakeel is something i have to endure to get to know spice am ready and willing . but just from the start lets get it staright my only interest is spice dont want any confusion lol
@ reformed
as you can see there are various verification processes that you need to pass through, lol! feel free to browse through the archives *wink*
Spicebear(winking back) i normally dont jump hoops and i believe a woman's past belongs exactly there. in the past. since i hate drawing attention to myself ill just send you an email
They used to have this thing of ati if the spirit leads them to your front porch, they would camp there the whole day...mind you it's a sunday and you wanna take an afternoon nap.lol
@ reformed
good luck in your endevours! and to help you along, the "have we met before line" rarely works, try try again!
@ kelitu
woi njezus, the horror! i would be like "get thee behind me satan" cos only the truly evil don't understand the importance of peace and quiet on a sunday afternoon. shindwe each and every one of them.
Well sci fi rocks big time and so do action movies. And yes Segal has made the same movie like 10 times and the bastard is still making movies! That dude only has one expression!Ugh!But action movies rock penda usipende!
As for church I pitiad a church here once and that was it!And yes the news here are kinda boring if you compare with what we had back home!
When it comes to bout, blood is a catalyst! There is nothing like tasting your blood to get syked up to give a beat down! But the beat down would go down irregardless!
hey lover. just touching base. and mass here is so unalive its almost ashaming. and do not hate on sci-fi and action flicks lest I arrange a nice star wars\rambo marathon. :-D But I know i'd end up paying for that. and baby mex soaps just retard you
@ acolyte
i would have thought being beaten would be incentive enough ... they act like licking blood gives you superhuman powers. both action movies and (my beloved spanish) soaps have clichés.
steven segal is still making movies? god help us all
@ mr teddy
hey papi. c'mon now, you know those themes are rewinded, right? i still prefer the soaps, that drama somethimes happens for real!
as for your marathon threats, you know that there are soaps on everyday, right? hehe. and dont think that that retarded comment passed me by :-D
hey spice! lol @ tasting the blood before the biggest beat up
and u knw that reformed player is Joe and one of his many personalities right?
@ anon
it's like it was in one flick and everyone decided to follow suit - sort of like how after the matrix all movies now have fight scenes in slow motion ... sigh.
are you for real ati it's joe? lol, stop rumour mongering. if you have proof ebu toboa
@Reformed process and good books with me then things will work wonders just believe me but u gat to pass the verification.
No confusion..
Spice you have no email can i get a spicebear@hotmail.com

How could I possibly have missed this one kool post?!? Nilikuwa wapi nafanya nini?!
"The book of the thousand nights", wierd as you may feel to read ONE story a night bcoz of time constraints, I can't help but laugh a sarcastic one at you...err, remember the reason it was called 1001 nights?
The King (Sultan)had one story read to him a night by the beautiful Shehrazad (cute name if u ask me)as a ploy by the cutie pie so she doesnt wind up dead like those other wives before her, right?
If it takes you 1001 nights to finish it then that's the very reason the tales were put together, au sio?
Hi there!Spicey, i like your site.Have gone through it and i feel you on most of the issues.Steven Segal ni uongo mtupu, hata hapa Kenya hatumwatch!Unless ni 1990 and you just bought a vcr!Mwah!
